Leicester Tigers prop Ellis Genge to have surgery on shoulder injury Rugby Aviva Premiership Champions Cup

Ellis Genge is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after Leicester Tigers confirmed that the prop will undergo surgery on a shoulder injury.

Genge, 22, suffered the knock during Saturday’s 32-25 Aviva Premiership defeat at Wasps and was forced to withdraw from the match just before half-time.

A subsequent scan revealed that the front-rower will require an operation to fix the problem.

Although Leicester are yet to provide an exact return date for Genge, Tigers head coach Matt O’Connor expects to be without the England international for around two months.

“We’ve had the results of the scan back and Ellis is going to need some minor surgery which will mean a couple of months out of the game,” O’Connor told the club’s official website Wednesday.

“It’s obviously very disappointing for him and for us because he has been outstanding so far this season and has been in the England squad during the autumn. But we will look forward to his return in due course.”

With Genge out of Saturday’s trip to Munster, Leicester have recalled loose-head Michele Rizzo from his loan spell at Edinburgh and have registered the Italy international in their Champions Cup squad.
